Our client is a leader in the food-service equipment manufacturing industry. This privately-owned organization has long been established and has been consistently growing and profitable. Our client provides solutions to the supermarket and warehouse club industry, and is the exclusive supplier of rotisseries and heated display cases to over 90% of the warehouse clubs in the USA. The Company is actively customer-driven as indicated by its mission to provide “Responsive, Reliable Solutions”.

The Mechanical Product Designer works as part of the Technical Team and reports to the Vice-President, Engineering. The Mechanical Designer provides design knowledge and drafting resources for both new product development and for the maintenance of existing designs and drawings using PTC’s Creo 3.0.

Responsibilities

What we need your help with:
• Produce cost-efficient designs of commercial cooking and holding equipment and their related accessories with minimal supervision. Over 95% of Our client’s designs involve the use and manipulation of Stainless-steel sheet metal;
• Produce fabrication drawings of professional quality (sound integrity, free of errors) in accordance to current ANSI Y14.5 standard including GD&T practices;
• Produce support documentation such as Bills of Materials (BoM), Service Drawings, Wiring Schematics, etc.;
• Contribute creatively to Our client’s design efforts;
• Solve technical design problems as requested by Project Leaders;
• Contribute to the improvement of our client’s design and drafting practices.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:
• Post-secondary education/Degree in a mechanical discipline;
• Possess a minimum of 2 year Canadian/US industrial experience using PTC Creo;
o o Must have strong working knowledge of Creo 2.0 or higher software.
• Possess a minimum of 1 year Canadian/US industrial experience designing structural, load-bearing components (other than basic “box” enclosures) using sheet-metal of #14-gauge thickness or thinner;
o Must have working knowledge of proper (efficient) sheet-metal design in CREO.
o Must have basic understanding of modern sheet-metal fabrication processes and their limitations.
o Must have basic understanding of the different material properties for various sheet metal materials.
• Possess a minimum of 3 years Canadian/US industrial experience designing mechanical assemblies;
o Must have a strong understanding of fastener selection and joining practices
o Must have a strong understanding of GD&T convention and implementation practice.
• Possess a minimum of 3 years Canadian/US industrial experience drafting mechanical fabrication drawings (parts and assemblies);
o Must have strong working knowledge of current drafting standard ANSI Y14.5 practices and symbols.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel;
• Hold a valid driver’s licence and have year-round access to a vehicle for occasional visits to local suppliers;
• Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) at the technical level.

Nice-to-have :
• Knowledge of French and/or Spanish;
• Having strong knowledge of one or more of the following topics would be considered an asset: metal or plastic casting processes, sheet metal fabrication techniques, metallurgy, heat transfer principles, FEA/FEM, and electro-mechanical design.

Working Environment/Conditions:
o Office and workshop environment, with some hands-on assembly work in the workshop;
o Regular hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. - Monday – Friday (40hrs/week);
