Role and Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineering Supervisor leads the electrical and software development team with a mandate to design, sustain, and continuously improve equipment control systems and digital infrastructure.
This is a dual role: The Supervisor provides functional leadership and oversight to the department while directly serving as a Senior Technical Lead on complex projects. The Supervisor is accountable for the reliability, code quality, and electrical safety of products, delivering clear architecture roadmaps, structured code/design reviews, and actionable follow-up across development cycles. The Supervisor provides structure, governance, and accountability to ensure that software releases, electrical schematics, and system integrations are delivered on time, within budget, and to defined performance and compliance standards. The role drives collaboration across Mechanical Engineering, R&D, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Service, ensuring the physical machine and digital ecosystem are perfectly aligned. This role reports to the Director of Engineering.
What we need your help with
Technical Leadership & Execution
- Lead the planning and execution of electrical and software deliverables through the ECO process (sustaining) and NPI process (new product introduction).
- Oversee the work of Electrical Technical Specialists and Software developers, ensuring clear objectives, architectural standards, and development timelines.
- Serve as Senior Technical Lead on strategic projects: define system architecture, select hardware components, manage software requirements, and ensure feasibility studies and safety risks are identified and mitigated.
- Take ownership of system reliability by overseeing bug tracking, software version control, and electrical warranty reports. Lead root-cause analysis for field failures and drive corrective actions to enhance lifecycle performance.
- Coordinate with suppliers for electronic components, PCB fabrication, and external software consultants when required to meet launch requirements.
Product Support & System Integration
- Lead the deployment of technology, overseeing software-hardware integration, conducting validation testing, and supporting pre-production trials.
- Capture feedback from Service and Manufacturing regarding assembly logic or UI/UX challenges and integrate lessons learned into future software updates or electrical harness designs.
- Provide Level 3 technical support for complex electrical or software issues that cannot be resolved by standard troubleshooting.
- Serve as a consultant for new product development, advising on IoT features, automation capabilities, electrical design, and compliance.
Process & Governance
- Own and enforce SR&ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) process documentation for all electrical and software activities.
- Standardize development tools and methods, including Git repository management, coding standards, electrical schematic templates (e.g., IEEE/IEC), and release documentation.
- Be an expert user of the ECO and NPI processes, ensuring that software changes and electrical part substitutions are properly documented and communicated to manufacturing.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of designs (e.g., UL, CSA, CE, FCC) in collaboration with compliance specialists.
People Development & Performance
- Plan, organize, direct, and monitor the work of direct reports, aligning with departmental and corporate priorities.
- Lead recruitment, workforce planning, and structured onboarding.
- Conduct skills assessments and implement training plans to keep the team updated on emerging technologies (e.g., AI integration, new coding frameworks, changing electrical codes).
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback to support career growth and retention.
- Manage team performance by setting objectives, tracking progress, conducting performance reviews, and addressing gaps through ongoing feedback and corrective action when required.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by fulfilling supervisory obligations under Québec law (LSST), including identifying and correcting hazards, enforcing safe work practices, supporting ergonomic adaptations, and promoting compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
- Act as a role model for company culture and values, fostering engagement, accountability, and teamwork, and champion change initiatives by embedding new processes and tools into daily operations.
